Strategically located on the historic Silk Road, the Gürbulak Border Gate is a critical link between Türkiye, Iran, and Central Asia. Originally modernized in 2003, the gate had deteriorated over the years and could no longer accommodate Türkiye’s expanding trade along the "Revived Silk Road." In 2020, the gate was transferred to GTİ for comprehensive modernization under the "build-operate-transfer" model, a leading example of successful public-private sector collaboration.

The modernization efforts at Gürbulak Border Gate, one of the busiest entry points to Iran, where nearly 800 trucks pass through daily, are being implemented in phases to ensure uninterrupted vehicle and passenger traffic. Once completed, the total area will expand from 180,000 m² to 320,000 m², while the enclosed space will increase from 16,000 m² to 48,000 m². The upgrade will include the construction of 16 platforms, comprising 8 truck entrances and 8 exits, as well as 4 dedicated platforms for passenger vehicles and buses, doubling the current capacity and significantly improving cross-border logistics.

As part of the ongoing modernization project, a highly secure and fully controlled facility will be developed. The upgrade will feature the installation of three advanced vehicle control and scanning systems (X-ray), high-tech CCTV surveillance, card access control systems, license plate recognition technology, and under-vehicle monitoring systems, all aimed at ensuring maximum security and efficiency.

Furthermore, the project will include the construction of three lodging buildings with a total enclosed area of 20,000 m², providing 198 apartments for public personnel working in the area. A nursery and social facility will also be built to enhance the quality of life for employees, offering essential services and recreational spaces.
